ak47
AK-47

THE GENETICS

AK-47 is one of the most awarded and recognisable hybrid varieties in the history of modern cannabis, a name that, despite its military association, actually conceals one of the sweetest, most complex and most appreciated aromatic experiences worldwide. Created in the Netherlands in the early 1990s by breeder Simon of Serious Seeds, it is the result of a four-way cross between a Colombian, a Mexican, a Thai and an Afghan — four of the world's most legendary landraces, originating respectively from South America, Mexico, Southeast Asia and Central Asia. This extraordinary genetic mix produced a sativa-dominant hybrid with a strong, complex personality, bringing together the finest characteristics of four of the planet's oldest and most respected cannabis traditions in a single strain. AK-47 has won more than sixteen international prizes, including Cannabis Cups and High Times Awards, over the years, cementing its reputation as one of the most versatile and reliable strains in the European scene. Its CBD version preserves its pungent, earthy character with a THC content within legal limits.

THE APPEARANCE

AK-47 CBD flowers have a typically hybrid structure: medium-sized buds, moderately dense and compact, with a balanced construction between the sativa heritage — which lends openness and lightness — and the Colombian and Afghan indica heritage, which strengthens the structure and increases resin density. The colour is a uniform medium green, with shades tending towards yellow-green in the more mature areas, enriched by abundant, well-distributed orange-red pistils running vividly through every flower cluster. The trichome covering is particularly remarkable: a dense, white, crystalline layer covers every surface of the buds, giving them an almost snow-covered appearance that recalls — not without irony — the snow on the Afghan mountain peaks from which part of its DNA originates. The buds are selected and trimmed by hand to ensure consistent, high-quality batches.

AROMA

AK-47's aromatic profile is one of the most complex and discussed in the CBD landscape: an interplay of apparently contrasting notes that merge into a surprisingly harmonious and persistent bouquet. The dominant notes are earthy and woody, with hints of humus, sweet tobacco and cedarwood forming the solid, deep foundation of the profile. Delicate, unexpected floral nuances — wild rose and meadow flowers — rest upon these, inherited from the Colombian and Thai components, softening and perfuming the whole. Spicy hints of sandalwood, white pepper and incense emerge in the background, adding an exotic, oriental touch. The aftertaste is sweet and slightly honey-like, with a long, satisfying persistence that contradicts the harshness evoked by the name. An aroma that tells the story of the whole world in a single flower.

ORIGIN AND CULTIVATION

This strain is grown in a fully controlled indoor environment, where conditions are optimised to showcase its natural tendency to produce an abundant resin covering and a rich, layered terpene profile. Growers appreciate AK-47 for its relative ease of management compared with other sativa-dominant varieties: its flowering cycle is shorter than average, and the plants show good resistance to environmental stress, a characteristic inherited from the robustness of the Afghan and Colombian landraces in its DNA. Cultivation takes place without pesticides or chemical fertilisers, in full accordance with the highest organic standards. Particular attention is paid to humidity management in the final flowering stage, to preserve trichome integrity and prevent mould formation. The flowers are harvested at the optimal time, dried slowly and selected by hand before packaging.

THE ORIGINS

AK-47 was created in Amsterdam in the early 1990s by Simon of Serious Seeds, a Dutch company founded to produce stable, high-quality and easy-to-grow varieties for the European market. Simon chose to cross four of the world's most prized and geographically distant landraces — Colombian Sativa, with its lightness and tropical elegance; Mexican Sativa, lively and earthy; Thai Sativa, intensely floral and spicy; and Afghan Indica, dense, resinous and robust — in an ambitious genetic project that required years of selection and stabilisation. The result was a sativa-dominant variety of rare complexity that debuted on the European cannabis scene with an impressive series of accolades, winning the Amsterdam Cannabis Cup as early as 1999 and repeatedly in subsequent years. Despite its provocative name — chosen to emphasise the strain's power and precision, certainly not to glorify weapons — AK-47 became a symbol of cultural peace between the cannabis traditions of four different continents, now featured in CBD catalogues throughout Europe as one of the market's most classic and reliable strains.

FLOWER SPECIFICATIONS

Item

Value

Variety

AK-47

Cultivation type

Controlled indoor cultivation

Country of origin

Italy — Lombardy

Hemp cultivar

Cannabis sativa L.

Appearance

Medium-sized flower, abundant resin covering

Colour

Medium green with orange-red pistils

Drying

Slow, at a controlled temperature

AROMATIC PROFILE

Item

Value

EARTHY

Humus, sweet tobacco, cedarwood

FLORAL

Wild rose, meadow flowers

SPICY

Sandalwood, white pepper, incense

SWEET

Honey, warm oriental notes

STORAGE

Temperature: 15–20 °C
Humidity: 55–62% RH
Packaging: Airtight jar, protected from light

The indicated CBD percentage is for guidance only and represents the maximum value obtained in laboratory testing for this strain.
