OG Kush
Description
THE GENETICS
OG Kush is probably the most legendary and influential strain in the history of modern cannabis. Born in Florida in the early 1990s and perfected in the hills of Southern California, it became the genetic foundation of hundreds of hybrid varieties that have dominated the market over the last thirty years. Its precise origins remain shrouded in mystery: according to the most widely accepted theory, it derives from a cross between a Chemdawg and a Pakistani Hindu Kush, although some sources include Lemon Thai among its ancestors. The initials “OG” are debated among enthusiasts — some maintain they mean “Original Gangster”, others “Ocean Grown”, referring to the proximity to the sea in Southern California where it was cultivated. In its CBD version, this iconic strain preserves its original character, offering an unmistakable terpene profile with a THC content within legal limits.
THE APPEARANCE
OG Kush CBD flowers have a dense, compact structure typical of indica-dominant genetics, with medium-sized buds covered in a generous layer of amber and whitish trichomes. The colour is bright green with lime-yellow highlights, enhanced by long rusty-orange pistils running through the flowers. The leaves surrounding the buds sometimes show purple nuances in the areas most exposed to temperature fluctuations during cultivation. The resinous structure is clearly visible to the naked eye, making every flower an example of density and quality. The buds are selected and trimmed by hand to ensure uniform batches free of excess foliage.
AROMA
OG Kush's aromatic profile is among the most recognisable and imitated in the world: anyone who has encountered this variety once never forgets it. The dominant notes are an intense combination of lemon and citrus over an earthy, woody base with hints of pine and incense. A spicy nuance of pepper and hashish emerges in the background, recalling its Middle Eastern indica roots. The aroma's persistence is extraordinary, with a warm, enveloping aftertaste that lasts a long time. Combustion further enhances the citrus notes, adding hints of resinous wood and wet earth that complete a complex, satisfying bouquet.
ORIGIN AND CULTIVATION
This strain is grown in a fully controlled indoor environment, where every environmental variable is optimised to enhance resin production and the strain's characteristic terpene profile. OG Kush is a variety requiring attention and expertise: it is sensitive to nutrients, prefers a dry, well-ventilated environment and requires careful pH management during irrigation. Cultivation takes place without pesticides or chemical fertilisers, in accordance with the highest organic standards. The flowering cycle is carefully monitored to harvest the flowers at the optimal moment, ensuring the maximum concentration of cannabinoids and terpenes. The buds are slowly dried, cured and selected by hand before packaging.
THE ORIGINS
The story of OG Kush begins in the early 1990s, when breeder Matt “Bubba” Berger brought some plants from Florida to California, probably derived from Chemdawg 91. Entrusted to the care of Josh D. in Los Angeles, those plants gave rise to what would become the quintessential Californian strain. OG Kush quickly spread through the Los Angeles underground scene, becoming the favourite strain of the hip-hop and rap music industry, which helped turn it into a legend. From California it expanded across North America and then into Europe, where CBD growers adopted its genetics to produce superior-quality flowers. Today it is considered the “mother” of dozens of successful varieties, including Bubba Kush, Skywalker OG, Girl Scout Cookies and many others.
