ORIGIN AND CULTIVATION

This strain is grown in a fully controlled indoor environment, where every parameter is optimised to enhance both its extraordinary resin production — favoured by its strong indica component — and the warm, citrus terpene profile that forms its aromatic signature. Orange Velvet responds exceptionally well to intensive cultivation techniques such as Screen of Green (ScrOG), which maximise each flower cluster's exposure to light and enhance trichome production in the final flowering stage. Temperature management receives particular attention: slight nighttime reductions during the final weeks stimulate optimal trichome maturation and the development of the amber and golden shades that make the flowers visually extraordinary. Cultivation takes place without pesticides or chemical fertilisers, in full accordance with the highest organic standards. The flowers are harvested at peak maturity, dried slowly and selected by hand before packaging.

THE ORIGINS

Orange Velvet has its roots in two great cannabis traditions that might once have seemed unlikely to come together: the sunny, citrus-rich tradition of California, home to California Orange — one of the most celebrated sativa varieties of the 1980s, known for its intensely mandarin-scented aroma — and the dense, resinous tradition of the Afghan highlands, the source of the indica Kush genetics that revolutionised European indoor cultivation from the 1990s onwards. The idea of crossing these two distant worlds arose in European breeding circles in the early 2000s, when Dutch and Spanish breeders began experimenting with California Orange to create hybrids combining citrus aromatic complexity with the compactness and resin production of indicas. The “Velvet” phenotype emerged from these experiments as a particularly successful selection, characterised by the exceptionally soft and resinous texture of its flowers, which became its distinguishing feature. Adopted by European CBD growers for its ability to produce flowers with a strong visual and aromatic impact, Orange Velvet is now considered one of the most refined gems in the Italian CBD catalogue.
